Grimes and Elon Musk have changed their baby boy’s name, the “Miss Anthropocene” singer said, after it failed to comply with California law.
Grimes has revealed via Instagram That she’s changed her baby’s name from X Æ A-12 to X Æ A-Xii, because California law prohibits Indo-Arabic numerals in names.
The name change was revealed after an Instagram follower asked Grimes about the change, to which she replied;
“X Æ A-Xii,” she answered in the comments. She later added, “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh,”
when a separate fan noted she “removed the numbers to conform [sic] to California law.”
The 32-year-old new mom also noted that California permits one dash in a name.
Under California law, names must be written an birth certificates “using the 26 alphabetical letters of the English Language’- though apostrophes and dashes can be included,too.
It’s unclear whether the couple has finally come to an agreement about how to pronounce their son’s name.
It was reported shortly after X Æ A-Xii was born that his name could be problematic in the Golden State because an approved name can only use the 26 alphabetical characters of the English language.
Although they removed “12” from the name, Grimes didn’t mention cutting “Æ,” which she previously said represents “my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence).”
Though their nomenclature issues might be settled for now, they still are going to face problems when trying to explain the meaning behind their son’s unique moniker.
