While many of her young colleagues will do anything to appear on the stages of some big events on the entertainment calendar, Afropop artiste, Ellen Ayensuaa Gyapong popularly known as Efe Keyz, won’t be in a hurry to do so.
According to her, from her observation and experience, many of these big platforms don’t pay for the services of up and coming artistes since they (events organisers) believe they are giving the up and coming artistes the opportunity to promote themselves.
She told the Graphic Showbiz that she is making good money by playing corporate gigs and at smaller shows since they appreciate her worth.
“I have realised that as a young artiste coming up, big shows are not really for me since the event organisers will always put bigger artistes ahead of you. On the event that you are even billed, you get nothing in return for your services since they think they are doing you a favour.
“So I have resolved to play at smaller events and at where I can get value for my services. Music only pays if you are wise and professional and I’m proud to say I have acquired something through music.
“As a live performer, I get invitations to many corporate shows, weddings and parties. For now, this is what I have assigned myself to and with time, I will build a solid audience across the world,” she stated.
Efe Keyz has performed at a number of events including Ashaiman To The World Concert 2018, The Reign Album Launch 2018, Miss Galaxy Ghana 2018, Fashion Ghana Awards 2019, VGMA Nomination Jam, Vodafone Xperience Show, Accra Fashion Week among others.
But while working in her “little corner” to make great strides, the Juju artiste, who is presently on her own and without any management after the death of Willi Roi who discovered and managed her, said she will reject any offer from a male manager who expresses love for her since it affects productivity.
“This has been the fate of many female acts because as soon as the relationship goes sour, it affects the professional input and so I don’t encourage that. Every relationship should be professional for the good of both parties.
“Through Zylofon music, I built a good brand so I need a good management that can push my skills, brand and works outside Ghana and to also benefit financially,” she stated.
Efe Keyz, who won the Most Popular Artiste at the Emerging Music Awards 2019 is preparing to release two singles before Christmas.
